READ THE INTERVIEW
Skye, you are from Canada and Japan. I want you to tell me about the Netherlands, how come?
I am actually half Dutch. My father is from the Netherlands. I visited the country many times and also have some family there. I just really enjoyed it there and met a lot of nice people that are a big part of my life now and it has become one of my homes.
You seem really creative. How did you realize that “yes music is my passion”? How long have you been into music?
I realized that music was my passion at a young age. I’ve always felt a deep connection to music and found myself constantly drawn to it. Whether it was singing along to my favorite songs or trying to create my own melodies, I knew that music was something I wanted to pursue. It allows me to express myself creatively and connect with others on a deeper level.
Steve Kroeger, who is participating in a lot of your songs is a very talented artist. Tell me 3 things about your relation.
Steve Kroeger is indeed a talented artist, and I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with him on several songs. Three things about our relationship would be that we have a great musical chemistry and understanding, we share a similar vision for our music, and we both push each other to create the best possible songs.
You recently upload your video clip for the “Just wanna dance”. Do you like dancing?
Yes, I absolutely love dancing! It’s a wonderful way for me to express myself physically and let loose. It allows me to connect with the music. I actually grew up taking ballet, tap dance, hiphop lessons and that’s how my love for music started.
Five of your singles were on the Billboard Dance / Mid show US National Airplay Charts. The “so close” was on number 10! How do you feel about it? Is it a huge step to the complete success?
I feel incredibly grateful and proud to have had five singles on the Billboard Dance/Mid Show US National Airplay Charts. It’s definitely a step towards success and validation for my music career. Seeing “So Close” reach number 10 was an incredible milestone, and it motivates me to keep pushing myself and creating music that resonates with people.
“Dear anxiety”. Does this song expresses you? Do you ever feel like the situation that this song describes?
“Dear Anxiety” is a song that definitely reflects certain experiences and emotions I’ve had. Anxiety is something that many people, including myself, struggle with at times. The song allowed me to express those feelings and connect with others who may be going through similar situations. While I don’t feel that way all the time, it’s a part of my journey and it’s important to address and raise awareness about mental health.
And how do you feel now? How is Skye? Are you hopeful?
Right now, I’m in a much better place mentally. I’ve learned to cope with anxiety and take steps towards managing it. What helps me a lot is working out, reading, relaxing and just reminding myself that everything will be fine.
You are going to relax. Which is the best kind of music for you to relax?
When I want to relax, I often listen to calming and soothing music. Whether it’s acoustic tunes, chill music, something with a calming and gentle vibe helps me relax.
If someone stalk your Instagram profile, they can say that you like traveling for sure. In how many countries have you been until today and which culture you loved the most?
I’ve been fortunate to have traveled to many countries, experiencing different cultures. I’ve visited several countries, including Japan, Canada, the United States, Greece, Thailand, Indonesia, Italy, and many more. Each culture I’ve encountered has had its unique charm, making it difficult to choose just one. I have to say I have a weak spot for Japanese culture due to my heritage.
What is this that makes you feel good during the day? Is it a person, a hobby, or something else?
What makes me feel good during the day is listening to nice music while taking my dog Kenzo on walks, going for a workout, spending time with my friends and eating good food. (I am a big foodie).
What is the first thing that you do when you wake up in the morning?
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is take a few moments to snuggle my dog. Then I make my coffee and take him for a nice walk.
What is the best time during the day for you to work? Are you a morning person or a night one?
I am more of an evening person when it comes to working on music. I feel more inspired in the evening and I’m just really not a morning person.
What is your love language?
My love language is words of affirmation and physical touch. I appreciate verbal and written expressions of love, support, and encouragement. They make me feel valued and appreciated.
Do you have any plans for the future? Maybe a new single or an album coming soon?
I do have plans for the future! I am working on new music and have some exciting projects in the pipeline. I can say that there will be more singles and it’s going to be an exciting year!
I want you to give us a message about music. Why is music so important in our life?
Music is an universal language. It brings people together without even having to speak. It’s a way for people to connect. It’s relatable, and a great way to express our feelings. It is a way for us to tell our stories and the world wouldn’t be the same without it.
